The Garden Planner application is available for all three main platforms, mainly Windows, Mac, and Linux. To start using it on your Windows PC, you must get a 15.9MB installation file, run it, and go through the instructions presented by a setup wizard. When Garden Planner launches, it's like having a blank canvas in front of you – a blank canvas that you can fill in with anything you want. And the truth of the matter is that Garden Planner provides all the tools you need for the job. There are a variety of items you can use from the Object and Tools menu to the left. In the Tools menu you will find trees, shrubs and plants, flowers, buildings, pools, walls and fences, and a lot more. All the items are nicely grouped into categories so you can easily take them and place them on the canvas as you see fit.
Anything you put on the canvas can be moved, rotated, resized, or duplicated. For each item you can also add a title, a custom size, a custom color, and you can even add a note if you want to. Speaking about notes, the application comes with a very handy Notebook; add notes to it, save it as a TXT or CSV file, or print it out.
Once you're done with your garden or landscape plan, you can print it out. Do note that the trial version of Garden Planner puts a watermark on the output. You should also note that the trial version of Garden Planner is free to use only for a 15-day evaluation period.
As I was saying, you can print out a plan once you're done creating it. But if you're anxious to see what you can come up with, if you want to see results right away, you can load one of the several sample plans the application comes with.
